Anthropological inquiry of an uploaded mind
Plessner’s anthropology, transhumanism and the quest for digital immortality

This essay examines the transhumanist vision of digital immortality through Mind Uploading (MU) from an anthropological perspective. Drawing on Helmuth Plessner’s philosophical anthropology and Jos de Mul’s reflections on virtuality, it questions whether a digitally uploaded mind can meet the criteria that define the human. By contrasting Plessner’s emphasis on the constitutive role of the biological body with transhumanist aspirations to transcend it, the paper evaluates the anthropological feasibility of digitalized human life.
