Mind (the) Fixers: An analysis of Western perspectives on the mind and suffering, and a discussion of integrating Eastern contemplative practices.
Suffering is universal, but its interpretation is culturally shaped. Western traditions have largely framed suffering through dualistic models such as psychoanalysis and biological psychiatry, while Eastern traditions understand it (duhkha) through non-dual perspectives and contemplative practices like meditation. This essay examines how Eastern contemplative frameworks have been integrated into the science-oriented Western model and questions whether this process risks decontextualization and new forms of colonial appropriation.
