Explorative design of a soft robotic arm wearable for mediation of affective touch

This work bridges soft robotics and technology-mediated socio-affective experiences through the design of a wearable that facilitates affective touch. It reviews the mechanisms and benefits of social touch and explores relevant soft robotic wearables to define optimal stimulation parameters. Soft bending and contracting actuators were prototyped and integrated into a conceptual forearm wearable. The project concludes with design considerations, improvements, and potential use scenarios.
